BASKETBALL PROGRAMS
THRIVE BASKETBALL LEAGUE
Our Thrive League is a developmental league focused on teaching the fundamentals of basketball. Through this program your child learns progressive drills targeting dribbling, passing, shooting, one on one defense, and the fundamental rules of basketball.
• 7 week schedule
• Games will be played in four 6-minute quarters
• One-on-one defense only
• No free throws on fouls
• Customized Jerseys with Last Names provided
EXCEL BASKETBALL LEAGUE
Our Excel League is a competitive league focused on creating a more dynamic basketball environment for challenging experienced players. Through this program, players will refine and develop more advanced dribbling, passing, shooting and defensive skills, while introducing more advanced rules of basketball. This league is designed to provide a more competitive experience that does not require extensive travel.
• 7 week schedule
• Games will be played in four 7-minute quarters
• Both man and zone defensive schemes
• Player Positions will begin to be introduced
• Free Throws and Jump Balls are introduced
• Travelling and Double Dribbling will be progressively and more strictly enforced throughout the season.
• Customized jerseys with Last Names provided
How to Choose Between Thrive and Excel Leagues for My Child?
Thrive League
- Ideal for children learning basketball or a youth sport for the first time.
- Weekly lessons focus on fundamentals of basketball such as dribbling, passing, shooting and defense.
- Practices are held on Saturdays prior to games, at the game location. Practices and games are each approximately 30 minutes in length, totaling a one-hour weekly session.
- Games are structured to focus on development of fundamentals and are less competitive than Excel League games. Referees and coaches will participate on the court to support the learning and development of the children during games.
Excel League
- Designed for children who have previous experience with basketball or a different youth sport.
- Weekly lesson plans focus on advanced fundamentals of basketball, as well as beginning to learn structured offensive and defensive team concepts.
- Practices will be held once weekly from 5:30-6:30pm. Practices are usually held at First Methodist Church of Oviedo.
- Game days consistent of a 15-20min warm-up session followed by game play. Games are officiated using referees, who will enforce basketball rules and concepts progressively through the season.
